Kovil (2003)
Silambarasan whose earlier film Alai never made any waves and left him standing on the shores is now depending on director Hari to change his fortunes with Kovil. Hari who gave Saamy, the biggest blockbuster of this year is the hot favourite now. The entire shooting was completed in 51 days. The crew had returned after a non-stop schedule in Nagercoil and Munnar. Hari, Simbu and Sonia Agarwal were busy shooting for a song in AVM studios. You will see a new Simbu a simple college student sans any mannerisms or style, revealed Simbu. Saamys music by Harris Jayraj was a super hit and Hari is confident of creating the same magic in Kovil also. I wanted to complete the shooting at a stretch. So I could not spare time to listen to the tunes. Harris was very understanding and cooperative and came all the way to Nagercoil to compose songs. Like Saamy this films music will also reach the masses, claims Hari.
Haris earlier Tamizh was all about Madurai town and its underworld while Saamy was about a policemans fight against the Tirunelveli town mafia gang. Here Simbu and Sonia are two youngsters who did their schooling in village and come to study in a college at Nagercoil town. My earlier two films revolved around the title characters but here the title Kovil refers to ones heart is like a temple. Unlike my other two films this film has more romance and less action. There is no villain, said Hari.
Nazar and Rekha play Sonias parents. Nazar is given a different looks with a special make-up. Rajkiron appears in guest role. Vadivelu as Bullet Pandian has Charlie as Youth Pandian for company in the comedy track. Priyan cranks the camera. A.M.Ratnams Sri Surya Movies produces this film.
